There is so much beauty in this world. In nature, art, music, words, movement, light, places, feelings and moments. Your own personal beauty is not just skin deep. It is exuded through the way you carry yourself, your self-care practices, your self-love, your kindness, your smile, your body language, your presence and your soul. Healthy and happy looks beautiful on everybody. At the same time, beauty looks different for everybody. Try not to compare yourselves to others (or extremely edited images of others). Allow your own beauty to blossom from within.

You may have a beauty or self-care routine already in place. But it’s important to be aware that your skin is your largest organ. In fact, 60-90% of the ingredients you put onto it are absorbed into your bloodstream. The average woman absorbs 130 chemicals everyday through skincare and make-up products. Often unbeknown to us, these toxins wreak havoc on the body and are linked to problems such as hormonal dysfunction, skin conditions and liver function. So in the same way that you may make conscious choices to nourish your body with natural food for your health and happiness, it is also important to nourish your skin with good quality ingredients. I choose skincare and make-up products that are natural, organic and ethically sourced. This is also a form of self-love.

Choosing to use natural products that are not tested on animals is also a compassionate choice. Why do companies need to test new chemical ingredients on animals when there are perfectly safe and effective ingredients available in nature that need not be tested on animals in inhumane ways? Natural ingredients are also much better for the planet as they do not produce toxic wastes and harmful residues. But be careful of greenwashing and check that product claims are backed up with certifications. It is also important to consider the product packaging and whether it can be recycled.

If you are suffering with acne, your body is essentially signalling to you that something is out of balance or overloaded. Excess toxins or hormones that get trapped in the body are secreted through the skin. In this way, acne can be an indication of a toxic overburdened liver and digestive system or an underlying bacterial infection. To treat acne, you need to address the entire body and not opt for band-aid treatments like antibiotics which kill the good bacteria in the gut. Consider seeing a naturopath, nutritionist or holistic doctor to steer you in the right direction.
